14.-Port Works, $2,000.-Covers expenses incurred in taking sounding, borings, and for preliminary investigations in connection with new and proposed harbour works, foreshore dumping etc.
COMMUNICATIONS,
15.-New 100-foot road between Causeway Bay and Quarry Bay, $280,000. ---It has been decided to complete this work as early as possible. A contract has been let for the 2nd. Section of this road, and tenders obtained for the 3rd (and Final) Section in conjunction with forming an extension of the Reclamation at North Point. The rock removed from approximately Lau Sin Street to Wing Hing Street will be utilized in forming the Rubble Mound of the latter work.
16.-Widening of Middle Gap Road and access road to Mount Cameron (1st Section), $15,000.-To provide access to potential building lots on the western slopes of Mount Cameron. The sum provided will complete the contract in hand and allows for a further extension if required. 17. Surfacing 40-foot roads on Praya East, $4,000.-To continue surfacing, channelling and kerbing portions of Thomson and Jaffé Roads on the Praya East Reclamation according to agreement with lot holders. 18.-New Road to Bathing Beaches (South-East of Repulse Bay), $4,000.— A contribu- A road to the new Bathing Beaches is under construction. tion of $55,000 has been made towards the total cost by the sponsors of the Repulse Bay Lido Scheme. 19.-Widening of Magazine Gap Road between May Road and Stubbs Road, $3,000. It is anticipated that the contract will be practically completed in 1934. The sum provided is to meet the payment of Retention money and minor departmental works.
MISCELLANEOUS.
20.-Reinstatement of Government Retaining Walls, $5,000.-These walls are examined annually and this vote provides for the repair or recon- struction of any walls which are considered dangerous.
21.-Rewiring of Government Buildings, $10,350.-This sum is required for the replacement of defective and dangerous electrical wiring in Govern- ment buildings.
22.-Traffic White Lines, Studs and Motor Signs, etc., $5,000. To meet the cost of providing and laying down either white lines or studds on road corners, curves and junctions, and also motor signs etc.
23.-Colonial Cemetery, laying out new areas, $1,000.-To provide for an extension to the burial area within the boundaries of the Colonial Cemetery Happy Valley.

Sub-head 24. Latrines for two new Bathing Beaches, South of Repulse Bay, $7,000.- This item is to meet the cost of providing lavatory accommodation at the two larger Beaches South of Repulse Bay now open as public bathing beaches.

25.--Sanitary Department Garage, $1,400.-Provision for additional exits and substitution of bostwick gates for wooden poles in all exits to meet the requirements of the Fire Brigade.
26.-Two Cold Storage Rooms at Central Medical Store, $12,000.-The amount provides for constructing two cold storage rooms, capacity about 1750 cubic feet for storing sera, vaccines and ether.
27.-Garage accommodation at Shaukiran Police Station, $3,500.-This item provides garage accommodation for a Fire appliance, car and motor cycle.
28.-Chinese Cemeteries, laying out new areas, $6,000.-To provide for
additional burial areas is existing cemeteries.
WATER WORKS.
29.-Back Lane Service Pipes, $5,000.-To provide for the extension of subsidiary service pipes in back lanes in newly developed properties to obviate the excessive cutting of roads which would be necessary for direct connection to principal mains. These subsidiary mains are eventually paid for by house owners when connections are requested. 30.-Eastern Pumping Scheme, $75,000.-To continue work in connection with the provision of a filtered water supply from the Eastern Filter Beds to the slopes of Mount Cameron, Jardines Lookout, Broadwood Road and eventually Repulse Bay district.
PORT WORKS,
31.-Extension of Reclamation at North Point, $75,000.-This work is referred to in item No. 15 above. The extension will provide a further area for dumping, and as a large quantity of rock is available from the line of the 100-foot road above referred to, it is an economical time for this work to be carried out.
32.-Construction of Seawall and Cattle Pier at Kennedy Town, $70,000—
To complete portion of the Rubble Mound already formed and construct a new pier for landing cattle at the corner of Western Praya and Cadogan Street.
33.-Construction of Yard for Storage of Sand at Praya East, $15,000.-- For the construction of bins, together with surrounding fencing etc., in connection with a scheme for the conservation of sand. The site is in Gloucester Road, near Arsenal Street.
PUBLIC HEALTH & BUILDINGS ORDINANCE.
34.-Resumption for Road Widening Schemes approved by Government as rebuilding occurs, $10,000.-This vote is to cover expenditure in connection with resumptions of private properties fronting on roads which require either widening or realignment.
